INSAR Committees

2009 – 2010

Various functions of INSAR are overseen by standing committees. In the past, the chair and members of these committees were appointed by the Board of Directors. However, the current Board has elected to implement a new procedure to encourage broad participation in INSAR activities by the membership. The following is a list of committees currently established for INSAR. Most are in need of a chair, vice chair or members. This is indicated in the Status statement for each committee. There is also a short statement concerning the tasks of the committee.

If you would like to become a member of any of these committees, please submit a self-nomination form (see link below) to INSAR Administrator, Jennifer Gentry ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ). Please submit nominations no later than February 5, 2010. From the list of volunteers, the Board of Directors will select a chair for each committee. The chair will then select a group of members from the list of volunteers.

Community Advisory Committee

Tasks:	Advises Board of Directors on strategies to insure that INSAR and the IMFAR meeting address the needs of all stakeholders in the autism community.

Diversity Committee

Publications Committee

*Tasks:*	To provide oversight of all INSAR publications. Primary effort will be to provide oversight of the operations of Autism Research. Committee acts in an advisory manner to make suggestions to Board of Directors as to effectiveness of Editor and Editorial Staff.

Student Committee

Tasks:	Organizes activities to insure that INSAR is a productive and enjoyable meeting for graduate, medical and postdoctoral students. Provides advice to Board of Directors on issues of importance to student members.

Summer Institute Committee

Members:	STATUS – Seeking members
Tasks	To develop and implement a plan for annual Summer Autism Research Institute (SARI). Committee will investigate private and public mechanisms for support of the school and determine locations for SARI.

Public Relations Committee

Tasks:	This committee takes responsibility for publicizing events related to the IMFAR meeting. It is expected to work with a professional public relations organization.

Membership Committee

Members:	Seeking members
Tasks:	Review of all INSAR new member applications and renewal applications, determine appropriate categories of membership, communicate with applicant for clarifications/approval/denial, provide INSAR HQ with a copy of the approved application.

Nominations & Elections Committee

Tasks:	Manages nomination and election process of Board of Directors every two years.

Web site Committee

Tasks:	Review current Web site and submit edits to MIXXMEDIA. Develop timelines and content guidelines for re-occurring content areas (IMFAR, Awards, etc). Insure that the Web site adequately communicates information of interest to INSAR members.
